Are you looking for profitable niches with low competition to start an online business?

Finding a good niche can be challenging because it requires thorough market research, analyzing trends, understanding keyword research, and of course, competitor analysis.

Just choosing a popular niche is not enough. Otherwise, you will be wasting your time and resources on something doomed to fail, and you don’t want to do that, do you?

That is why I have done all the hard work for you researching the most profitable niches with low competition in 2024, so you can choose yours today.

Let’s dive in.

*Jan 2024 Update: I have updated the trends graphics, removed outdated recommendations, and added new ones based on new trends. I have also moved to SE Ranking for keyword research  since it offers the best value for money

*Disclosure: I only recommend products I would use myself, and all opinions expressed here are my own. This post may contain affiliate links that at no additional cost to you, I may earn a small commission.

But first:

  1. What is a niche? (in online marketing terms)

A niche is a small segment (of a larger market) that is distinguishable because of its unique needs and problems.

For example, cooking & recipes is such a huge market you can’t really call it a niche.
Vegan recipes, on the other hand, is a much more defined niche.
Indian Recipes For Vegans is an even more specific sub-niche of the same topic.

What makes a profitable niche market?

finding a profitable niche market

A profitable niche market is one where there is demand.

It is a niche in which people are already buying a product or service. And that is what niche marketing is about: selling what people are already buying.

You need to find a pain point and put a solution to it in the form of a product or service people will be willing to spend their money on.

There are always problems to be solved. Or even provide solutions to some hobbies, for instance:

  • People who love photography will read reviews before buying a new one or replacing the one they have. They need to know they are investing their money properly.
  • People with tiny houses will be looking for furniture and ideas to help them maximize their space.

You just need to find a niche you’ll be comfortable writing about and look for solutions within that niche. Once you do that, the money will follow.

If you already have some knowledge about a topic or a passion, that would be a great starting point.

How to find profitable niches with low competition?

Finding a niche that is both profitable and has low competition is crucial for the success of many businesses, especially in e-commerce and content creation. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you identify such niches:

Step #1: Brainstorm Your Interests and Expertise

  • Identify Your Passions: List topics you are passionate about or have a strong interest in. This can include hobbies, areas of study, or industry expertise.
  • Assess Your Knowledge: Consider areas where you have specialized knowledge or unique skills.

Step #2: Conduct Market Research

  • Trend Analysis: Use tools like Google Trends to analyze the popularity of potential niches over time.
  • Search Volume Analysis: Use keyword research tools (e.g., Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush) to determine the search volume for keywords related to your potential niches.

Step #3: Analyze the Competition

  • Competitor Research: Look at existing businesses or content creators in your potential niches. Note the number of competitors and their size.
  • Assess Market Saturation: Determine if the niche is oversaturated or if there’s room for a new entrant.

Step #4: Evaluate Profit Potential

  • Market Demand: Ensure there’s a sufficient audience interested in the niche.
  • Monetization Opportunities: Identify how you can make money in this niche (e.g., selling products, affiliate marketing, advertising).

Step #5: Look for Sub-Niches

  • Find Specific Angles: Break down broader niches into more specific sub-niches. These often have lower competition.
  • Unique Value Proposition: Consider how you can offer something different or better than what’s currently available in the sub-niche.

Step #6: Validate the Niche

  • Test Your Idea: Create a minimal viable product (MVP) or content sample to test market response.
  • Gather Feedback: Use surveys, social media, or direct customer feedback to gauge interest and refine your approach.

Step #7: Monitor and Adapt

  • Stay Informed: Keep up with industry trends, new technologies, and changing consumer preferences.
  • Be Flexible: Be ready to pivot or tweak your focus based on market changes or feedback.
